At least three of the books I asked for for Christmas were books I checked out and then couldn't finish because I had to take them back because I ran out of time because I had other library books to read...
It's very fun pulling a book out of the bins and realizing that it's a book you not only had no idea existed, but also didn't realize it was a subject anyone had written a book about!
It's not very fun when you wrack up 10 dollars in fines because you figure "Eh, I'm working tomorrow, I'll just take these back then." And then do that 5 times over the course of a week when they've been overdue for two. At least audiobooks I can listen to while I drive, so that's the exception...
So just before September I got pressured into the Bullet Journaling thing and surprisingly, I didn't just forget all about it a week later like I do with most planner/journal/lists. I have no idea what happened there, but I'm not going to complain. (If you happen to miraculously come across a dotted grid journal in a dollar store it's worth giving a try.)
Anyway, I made myself a daily schedule and a "don't break the chain" for art and Japanese in there and managed to stick to it pretty solidly for a little while. I've fallen off my own wagon since then but it's been good for keeping track of my personal to-do lists and stuff, too! I still forget things, but far fewer than I used to. Probably.
Part of the reason I stopped adhering so strictly was due to not having any kind of reward system that I cared about enough to try to earn, as I whined about in the plurk that started all this. But after thinking it over tonight I am having some thoughts...
-Public accountability: This comm. I can gloat about what I manage to do or else wear a cone of shame if I don't. I'm the kind of person that this is probably going to help a lot. -Rewards?! Witholding Ososan from myself sounds like a good motivator, but I'm not sure if I should only reward myself when I get all the big tasks of the week done, or every goal of the week done, or what... Also trying to think about different levels of rewards for a good month/not breaking either chain for a certain amount of time. I shouldn't go for anything food based, but I can't really think of other inexpensive/free things that would work. Also, trying to figure out how forgiving to be over bad fibro days. Actually bad ones, and not ones where I can still do at least a little bit at a time. >:| Keep it honest, me. -MONEY? Hey Noelle you massive tool did you know that if you make art and improve at it maybe you can profit off it too? Huh? Why don't you do it already.
I dunno! Blabber about your personal systems a little here, if you want.
